چکیده

Plants and algae were found useful in the decontamination of water polluted with chlorinated phenolic compounds. An artificial wastewater contaminated with up to 350 ppm herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), was successfully treated using horseradish, potato and Ulva sp. (sea lettuce), amended with H2O2. Horseradish -mediated provided up to 99% removal of 2,4-DCP from model solution, while, purified horseradish peroxidase provided up to 95%. Due to the apparent ease of application, the use of plant material may present a breakthrough in the enzyme treatment of contaminated water.

Decontamination of Water Polluted with Phenol using Raphanus sativus Root

Plant materials have been found useful in decontamination of water polluted with phenolic compounds. The detoxification effect is due to peroxidases contained in plant tissue. Enzyme mediated oxidative coupling of phenol is followed by precipitation of the formed polymer and its removal from the aqueous phase. A synthetic wastewater buffered at pH = 7.4 containing 0.9 mM phenol was treated in t...

Proposed Model for the Peroxidase-Catalyzed Oxidation of Indole-3-acetic Acid in the Presence of the Inhibitor Ferulic Acid.

Linear increments in ferulic acid concentration produce logarithmic increases in the ferulic acid-induced lag periods prior to the peroxidase-catalyzed oxidation of indole-3-acetic acid in a system containing 2,4-dichlorophenol and MnCl(2) in acetate buffer at pH 5.6. Maintaining the ratio of indole-3-acetic acid to ferulic acid constant at 100 while linearly raising the ferulic acid concentrat...

Growth characteristics and response of wheat to cadmium, nickel and magnesium sorption affected by zeolite in soil polluted with armaments

The presence of large heavy metal concentrations in soil polluted with chemical weapons causes serious operational restrictions against cultivation of agricultural crops like wheat. To solve this problem, the usage of zeolite has been proposed as one of the most efficient practical approaches. The main objective of this research is the investigation of the influence of natural Iranian zeolite o...

Effect of EDTA Chelate, Cow Manure, Elemental Sulfur Application and Thiobacillus Inoculant on Cd, Zn and Fe Phytoremediation Efficiency in a Cd-Polluted Soil

Background and Purpose: The Phytoremediation efficiency of heavy metals is one of the important points in environmental studies. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of cow manure, elemental sulfur, and EDTA on Cd uptake by Indian mustard in a Cd-polluted soil in the presence of Thiobacillus thiooxidans. Materials and Methods: Treatments consisted of applying cow manure (0, 5,...
